Addiction Services

IMPACT Solutions Specialized Workplace Trainings are facilitated by award winning therapist and trainer, Mr. Russell J. Goodwin.  Mr. Goodwin is a highly experienced professional with a unique set of skills working extensively with both individuals and corporations delivering trainings, in-services, and presentations. 

Drug Free Workplace and other such trainings are available to meet employee and supervisor requirements with entities such as the Bureau of Workers Compensation and the Department of Transportation.  Mr. Goodwin also coordinates workshops for employees dealing with dealing with chemical dependency and other addictions, co-dependency, adolescent disorders, family parenting and relationship issues, adjustment disorders, abuse, anxiety, depression, and anger/behavioral management issues. 

Drug Abuse in the Workplace

  • Understand the prevalence and impact of chemical abuse in the workplace and society
  • Learn about alcohol/drugs, their effects, and protocol for testing (toxicology screen) and assessments etc.
  • Identify warning signs and symptoms of abuse/dependency in the workplace
  • Develop skills for intervening on employees with a problem

U.S Department of Transportation Drug & Alcohol Education

 

  • Gain an understanding of the prevalence and impact of alcohol and drug use in the workplace and society
  • Gain information on the specific, contemporaneous physical, behavioral, and performance indications of probable drug and alcohol use
  • Learn about the symptoms and warning signs of alcohol/drug abuse and dependency
  • Gain an understanding of the procedures for drug testing, alcohol/drug assessments and referral/follow-up
  • Develop intervention skills for employees with alcohol/drug abuse problems

Drug Free Work Place – Supervisor (and Supervisor Refresher)

 

  • Recognize warning signs of possible alcohol/drug problems
  • Understand procedure for documenting problematic behaviors
  • Receive intervention skill-building for problematic employees
  • Understand follow-up protocol for employees returning to work
  • Gain awareness of the recovery and relapse process
  • Learn how to consistently operate with collective bargaining agreements

  • Gain an appreciation for ethics, boundaries and confidentiality in the helping professions
  • Gain insight regarding the role of the helping professional and how personal /professional belief systems effect our work
  • Provide models on how to make healthy, balanced ethical decisions in our professional work

AOD Use, Abuse and Addiction

  • Understand the risk factors & prevalence of abuse/addiction in society
  • Gain information on the various mood-altering chemicals and their effects
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of abuse and addiction
  • Understand conceptual models of use relative to abuse/addiction
  • Understand theoretical models regarding addiction as a primary, progressive and chronic Illness
  • Identify the criteria in diagnosing abuse and dependence via the DSM IV criteria

Family Illness of Addiction

  • Identify characteristics of CD/Dysfunctional families
  • Develop effective intervention and treatment strategies
  • Facilitate a healthy recovery process for individuals within the family, as well as for the family as a whole, through case presentation/discussion, role playing (e.g., family sculpting) and didactic presentation 

Empowering Parents to Care for Children from Chemically Dependent/Dysfunctional Families

  • Develop an appreciation and ability to empower the “healthy parent” and/or significant others with effective parenting techniques
  • Gain an understanding of how to love without enabling, limit without controlling, and let be without abandoning
  • Understand the difference between accountability and control, and letting go and avoidance,  in parenting

Teen Substance Abuse

  • Appreciate the developmental issues of adolescents and the impact of substance abuse
  • Identify risk and protective factors related to abuse
  • Identify drugs that are commonly abused by teens
  • Create awareness for the signs and symptoms that are common to teen substance abuse and addiction
  • Understand the assessment, referral, and treatment process for teen substance abuse and addiction, and the importance of behavior contracts and family involvement
